Philadelphia Endoscopy Center Receives National Honor
Washington Square Endoscopy Center Recognized by Leading Medical Society for High Quality Patient Care
Philadelphia, PA – May 6, 2009 – The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has named the Washington Square Endoscopy Center, LLC (WSEC) to its national Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program. This new program honors units that follow the ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscopy reprocessing and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) infection control guidelines. Upon completion of the program, units receive an ASGE "Certificate of Recognition" for promoting quality in endoscopy. WSEC is one of only 124 units to be recognized nationwide.
"We are very pleased to be honored by the ASGE with such a prestigious award," said Dr. William Lipshutz, practicing Gastroenterologist for WSEC. "This clearly shows the high standards of medical care our entire team of Physicians and staff provide our patients."
In order to receive a certificate of recognition, WSEC showed proof of its Joint Commission accreditation; affirmed that specific ASGE and CDC guidelines are adopted and followed as requirements of the Center's policy; and had a representative of the Center complete the ASGE Recognition Course, "Improving Quality and Safety in Your Endoscopy Unit." The Certificate of Recognition award is granted for a three-year renewable period.
"Our Endoscopy Center staff works very hard and pays strict attention to all safety and quality guidelines," said Stephanie Diem RN, Clinical Director for WSEC. "We are continually training and retraining our staff to remain current with professional standards. Our vision is to be ‘the best healthcare experience our patients ever had.'"
