Queensland Health names ProVation software as electronic Endoscopy Reporting solution
Sydney –7 January, 2009 –Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Queensland Health has contracted with Ovid Technologies for acquisition of ProVation® Medical products ProVation® MD for Gastroenterology and ProVation® MultiCaregiver. Ovid and ProVation® are part of global company Wolters Kluwer.
The software will be installed at all Queensland Health facilities that perform endoscopy services, and will play a key role in the documentation and reporting required by the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP). Implementation will begin in early 2009.
The NBCSP, now in its second phase, offers testing to people turning 50, 55 or 65 years of age between January 2008 and December 2010. The Queensland Bowel Cancer Screening Program (QBCSP) established a State Coordination Unit, a network of 12 Gastroenterology (GE) Nurse Coordinators and 11 Health Promotion Officers, and an authorised provider model that identified designated facilities and proceduralists as authorised providers for the program. QBCSP aims to provide high quality assessment colonoscopies in the public sector generated by the NBCSP.
“Bowel cancer can be treated successfully if detected in its early stages, but currently fewer than 40 percent of bowel cancers are detected early,” said Queensland’s Health Minister Stephen Robertson. “Queensland was the first state to commit to implementing the NBCSP, and has made a significant investment in supporting infrastructure and high quality service delivery.
“A critical part of a population screening program is timely data collection and monitoring of quality. ProVation software will allow us to streamline our documentation and data reporting process considerably,” he continued. “We will use the software to electronically capture procedure images and note findings, which will be automatically stored to the ProVation database. From there, data can be queried and analysed for the purposes of quality assurance and clinical research and to improve patient outcomes.”
Created by clinicians, ProVation MD software produces complete procedure documentation that results in greater efficiency, streamlined workflow and clinician satisfaction. The software interfaces seamlessly with patient demographic and other healthcare IT systems, allows images taken during the procedure to be integrated directly into the report, and has market-leading query/reporting capabilities for quality or other initiatives. ProVation MultiCaregiver software delivers GI nursing documentation, with the ability to interface with vitals monitors and allowing caregivers to capture procedure data throughout the continuum of care.
“As a global leader in healthcare information, Wolters Kluwer Health is committed to Queensland Health and the success of the National Bowel Screening Program,” said Allan Roberts, International Sales Director, Wolters Kluwer Health and ProVation Medical. “We are honoured to have been chosen as Queensland’s vendor of choice for endoscopy documentation and data reporting.”
